Good morning.

In the Literature/Hypothesis Testing folder you will find a file call "Bessel’s Correction: Why Use N-1 For Variance/Standard Deviation?" taken from https://www.statisticshowto.com/bessels-correction/, that explains why we divide by N-1 when we are dealing with relatively small sized samples.

Midterm Progress test and Planning for the completion of the course

Dear all,

In the eClass system you will find the presentation and corresponding reading material for two topics, i.e. 1) Design of Experiments (DoE). In the relevant folder I have uploaded a very nice eBook. I will discuss this topic in the next lecture - so I do not want you to do anything in relation to DoE yet; 2) Hypothesis Testing. In this folder you will find the relevant presentation and two additional docyments. One file entitled Hypothesis Testing is in English and there is also one File in Greek.

I want you all to study (not simply to read) the Chapter "Hypothesis Testing". I advice you all to also focus on doing the exam questions at the end of the Chapter, in makign sure that you understand the concepts described.

I will discuss both DoE and revisit the topic of Hypothesis Testing in the next Lecture, which will take place on the 13th of January 2026.

In that lecture we will also have a "mid-term" exam (a progress exam) on the topics we have covered dutring the first half of the coiurse. It will take 30-45 minutes and then we will move forward to the topics I have already rescribed above.

In the presentation for teh Lecture on "Hypothesis Testign" - I also describe the planning for the remaining of the course, until the 6th of February 2026 - when I paln to have the final exam of the course.
