Lasers matter interaction and experimental methods

(LAPLA 201) -  Prof. Nektarios Papadogiannis

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

In this course the main aspects of high-power laser–matter interaction in the intensity range 109 –1021 W/cm2 are presented. The interaction of ultrafast and intense laser pulses with atoms, surfaces and plasmas has many technological applications and is rich in physics. This course offers a guide to this topic for MSc students who have just discovered the field as a new and attractive area of research, and for scientists who have worked in another field and want to join now the subject of laser plasmas. A bachelor degree in physics enables the reader in any case to follow without difficulty. Average knowledge in Electrodynamics, Quantum physics, Plasma physics, Optics (with basics in non-linear optics) and Laser Science & Technology are the prerequisites that we expect from the student. Not more mathematics than necessary is introduced. The preference is given to ideas with experimental orientation with a theoretical background. Successful attendance of the course corresponds to 6.0 ECTS units
