Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The purpose of this course is to develop students’ intercultural competence by giving them understanding of problems caused by cultural differences and of concepts such as generalisations, stereotyping, prejudice, and racism. The role of ethnocentrism in developing negative attitudes towards cultural others is also studied. The course builds on relevant theory but also takes a problem-solving approach in order to help students understand how our cultural and personal beliefs, values, and norms affect the ways we communicate with others. It aims to help students demonstrate other culture awareness and cultural self-awareness, develop their tolerance, empathy and acceptance, therefore become more effective communicators.
