Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The course focuses on how culture/s affects behaviour and shapes verbal and non-verbal communication patterns. It examines closely how cultures communicate differently with words or with signals sent with body language and how this can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings. Through a series of examples, communication barriers, such as differing conversational styles or a diametrically opposed value of talk and silence, are illustrated. The course also explores multiple identities and hybridity and our perceptions of other cultures. The ultimate aim is to manage communication more effectively and avoid serious intercultural conflicts.
