The course Topics in Management Information Systems (MIS) is offered in the spring semester as an selective in the postgraduate program 'Informatics Engineering'. To this end, technology-based disruption is defined as re-organizing business routines. Of particular interest to the course are new and merging technologies such as digital platforms and collaboration technologies as deployed and practiced in selected sectors of the industry (i.e., tourism, public transport, healthcare, etc.)
Typically, the course is organized into thematic areas, covering:
- Review of classical perspectives on MIS (Transaction Processing Systems, Knowledge management Systems, Management Information Systems, Dicision Support Systems)
- Enterprise routines (notations for representing routines such as structured templates, narrative networks, use cases) and enterprise data management (especially data-driven strategy)
- Disruptive technologies in context (including digital platforms, social networking in enterprises, intra/inter-organizational collaboration) and distributed organizing
